“Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour” – John Heywood

I can see why Rome was not built in a day. From the Temples of Hercules Victor to the Colosseum to the EUR Convention Centre. Rome is an architectural embarrassment of riches.  The Arch of Constantine, the Trevi Fountains, the Spanish steps and of course the Pantheon attract hordes of international tourists and their iPhone cameras every year. So many styles from Baroque to Ionic to Tuscan and more have influenced the stunning Italian city. The backdrop of all these iconic structures makes for a memorable romantic stroll will a gorgeous companion.

Not only is Rome famed for it’s beautiful buildings but also for it’s wonderful hotels.

With so many choices it may be difficult to decide where to check in for your romantic weekend. We have compiled a shortlist for your inspiration.

Palazzo Roma, Via del Corso, 337 00186 Roma

Palazzo Roma, an opulent homage to the city’s aristocratic heritage. Not far from the Trevi Fountain, this is an 18th-century show stopper of a hotel. Lovingly restored to it’s former glory and then some. Four floors of majestic rooms and suites, sure to impress the most discerning of dates. Leave the cobbled streets and enter a refined sanctuary decorated with antiques, hand-painted ceilings and exquisite marbled floors. Somehow the Palazzo Roma manages to capture the decadent palatial feel of 18th-century Rome as well as the luxurious contemporary expectations of the well-heeled traveller in 2024.

Each room and suite is a masterpiece of vibrant tones and black accents. The bathrooms are truly magnificent, with custom marble and lighting worthy of a Hollywood film. Coffered ceilings, quirky artwork and luxurious linens ensure that you will have a sumptuous stay at the Palazzo Roma.

Bulgari Hotel Roma, Piazza Augusto Imperatore, 10, 00186 Roma

For almost 25 years the Italian luxury fashion house Bulgari has been in the hotel business. Known originally for it’s luxurious jewellery it is only fitting that Bulgaria has a luxurious hotel in Rome. Bulgari has had a presence here since 1934. The flagship store was opened in the city’s Via Condotti. Of course, London has it’s own Bulgari hotel in Knightsbridge.

Today the Bulgari Hotel offers a stylish and lavish stay. A new jewel in Rome’s hotel crown, the Bulgari Hotel Roma opened in 2023. Close to the Pantheon this lavish property houses over one hundred rooms and suites. The hotel is warm and inviting, using only the best textiles, lighting and soft furnishings to envelop guests in a sense of serenity. The Bulgari Hotel Roma even smells expensive, every pore of this Facist-style building is now grandiose.

From superior rooms to suites, you and your gorgeous companion can be certain of a wonderful stay. Of course, each room has a pillow menu, the latest technology to control lightning and sound as well as beautiful views. Rooms either look out onto the impressive Piazza Augusto Imperator or a quieter Via della Frezza. A super stylish stay awaits you and your gorgeous companion.

W Rome

W hotels are always visually stunning. They always ensure that their on-brand cool and contemporary aesthetic fits seamlessly with whichever landscape they have pitched up at. The W London will be very different to the W Rome. W London is a very modern contemporary building with a secret party loft feel to it since it is in London’s party area of Soho. W Rome is right by the Spanish steps, moments from the high-end luxury boutiques but inhibits a beautiful terracotta, joining palazzi.

The W always tries to attract the cool cats with deep pockets so expect to see Rimowa suitcases and Louis Vuitton carry on’s in reception. The beautiful and smart traditional-style building is awash with bold design choices once inside. The lobby features three large reception desks that are entirely mirrored in front of an electric mural of the Colesseum complete with bright green with hanging vines. The decor is quite an assault on the senses. A welcome cocktail will help you ease into the slightly zany W Rome.

The hotel has 160 sleek and stylish rooms to choose from. Beautifully bold colours against the pristine white bed linens are all very much trademark W hotel rooms. The bathrooms are a striking black and white marble. Whilst you will have a great night’s sleep in your trendy room or suite the real lure of W’s are always the bars. The Lounge will serve bespoke cocktails and play electro house throughout the day. The W playlists are always carefully curated. Later a live DJ entertains the crowds. Lastly, no matter what time you and your hot date rock up to the bar it will feel like a party.
