Istanbul

Istanbul is the city where East meets West. Spanning the Bosporus Strait, it’s is Turkey’s largest city

Once known as Byzantium is rich in history, architecture, culture, cuisine and hospitality. In just under four hours you can be transported from London town to magnificent, majestic Istanbul. Whether you are in need of relaxation, looking to explore or just simply want to enjoy a new city with a beautiful companion, Istanbul would make a fantastic long weekend away.

The Peninsula, Kemankeş Cd 34, Karaköy

Spread over four separate buildings, three of which are historical landmarks, The Peninsula Istanbul is a truly magnificent hotel. Set on 250 metres of prime Galataport waterfront real estate there really is no other hotel in this city that is quite like The Peninsula. It’s easy to see why this titan of a hotel took almost 10 years in the making. Whilst there may be many other luxurious hotels dotted along the Bosporus Strait none compare to the breathtaking views The Peninsula offers.

Much like the city itself where East meets West, The Peninsula seamlessly joins European style with Asian. The Peninsula, although situated on the European side of the bank blends Anadolu opulence with chic contemporary Western flair. A Turkish designed back lit Bauhaus style ceiling greets you in the lobby. It is majestic yet welcoming. The reception area was once the port’s passport office so although calm and serene today it would once have been a bustling hive of activity in days gone by. All four buildings are connected by corridors of polished Mamara marble. Again, fusing old with new. Two of the buildings date back to the 20th century, another is a 1930’s build and lastly the forth is a spectacular new glass design.

As one would expect of The Peninsula they have their own fleet of green Roll’s Royces. What sets The Peninsula’s Istanbul location from say The Peninsula London is that they have their very own yacht for guests. You and your beautiful companion can sail the Bosporus with a glass of champagne in hand. Now, you don’t get that on The Thames.

Raffles, Istanbul, Zorlu Center, 34340

Raffles, Istanbul opened ten years ago in the sleek Zorlu Centre. A modern haven of luxury shops, private residences as well as upscales bars and restaurants. This part of town is a hive of activity with locals and visitors alike descending on the stunning Zorlu Centre.

Giant chandeliers and intricate mosaics adorn this beautiful, opulent hotel. Much like Raffles London at The OWO, it seamlessly fits in with the local landscape as well as asserting The Raffle’s style. Of course there is a Long Bar as well as an Asian restaurant Isokoyo, a nod to Raffles asian heritage. However there is the Lavinia Lounge which offers decadent afternoon tea surrounded by elaborate mosaics.

If you and your stunning companion are in need of some relaxation then this is the hotel for you. Raffles boasts three Turkish haaman spas, nine treatments rooms as well as both indoor and outdoor pools. Leaving you both refreshed and revitalised.

If you wanted to wow your date and beat Istanbul’s notoriously busy traffic then why not take a helicopter to the airport? After all Raffles boasts its very own helipad.

Four Seasons, Istanbul Ciragan Cad. No:28, Besiktas, Besiktas, 34349

This opulent hotel sits on the European bank of the Bosphorus Strait with calming views of the Asian mountains in the distance. Tastefully decorated as one would expect any Four Seasons residence to be, you can expect muted tones of warm beige with locally influenced artefacts. Much like Four Seasons Park Lane and Four Seasons at Trinity Square this gem of a hotel takes inspiration from it’s location. Ottoman interior design influences are to be seen all over this luxurious hotel so expect lot of jewel coloured intricate tiling, detailed woven carpets and mock domes.

Accommodation is divided into the standard rooms and then the larger suites. We would recommend splashing out on a larger residence as then you are staying in the actual Palace building as opposed to the annexe buildings that house the smaller dwellings. Bosphorus views, gleaming marble, floor to ceiling windows and extravagant Ottoman styling ensures you will have a stay fit for an Ottoman Sultan and his Sultanah. After all this is a fully restored 19th century Palace, once known as the Atik Pasha.

Boasting both an indoor and outdoor pool, this is a great hideaway for some well deserved relaxation. No wonder this was once the summer home of a Sultan. The buffet breakfast is a sight to behold, Turkish mezze, American and British favourites as well as every coffee and tea you and your chosen companion could possibly wish for are available. Glass cabinet after glass cabinet of pastries, fresh fruit, breads, eggs, cold meats, cakes, preserves, cereals, juices and anything else you have ever dreamt of for breakfast and beyond can be found at the hotels’ Aqua restaurant each morning.

Once you and your date have had a good breakfast you can head out to explore. A 15 minute taxi ride will get you to the heart of Istanbul’s bazaars and shops. Alternatively if you wanted to hide away at the Palace then you can sunbathe at the outdoor pool or make use of the stunning spa. The indoor pool is simply majestic with it’s aquamarine, turquoise tiling and marble columns. When in Rome and all that you must simply try a Hammam ritual. The spa will leave you and your companion feeling ultra relaxed with steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzi’s and a full treatment menu that will pamper you from top to toe.

A truly royal experience for you and a beautiful companion. After all, you are staying in a palace.
