Brooklands at The Peninsula Hotel

Brooklands at The Peninsula Hotel

Brooklands at The Peninsula Hotel is the latest rooftop bar and restaurant to open in London. Up high above the tree tops, overlooking Hyde Park and the majestic London skyline you can enjoy British seasonal produce created using French methods. Chef Director Claude Bosi and Chef de Cuisine Francesco Dibenedetto come together to bring guests a Michelin starred gastronomic experience like no other.

Not just an incredible menu but Brooklands at The Peninsula celebrates the British aviation and motor industry. If the name Brooklands is familiar to you then perhaps it is because it shares it’s namesake with the Surrey racetrack which is now a museum. If you are a boy that loves his toys then this is the perfect restaurant to impress a hot date.

Champagne and supersonic speeds at Brooklands

Popping a bottle of champagne releases carbon dioxide gas in a series of shock waves. Many of which are faster than the speed of sound according to New Scientist magazine. What better place to enjoy a glass of champagne than here at Brooklands. After all where else will you find a true to scale model of Concorde suspended from the ceiling?

“A lot of people drank better on the Concorde than they did on the ground,” – Mark Oldman, author and wine expert

An aviation themed aperitif perhaps? Brooklands bar is a fantastic destination by itself. A great place to ensure your date gets off to a flying start. See what we did there?! The bar arguably has the best views in London. Fun touches are all around. Racing car headlights on the tables and memorabilia from the original Concorde airport lounge. If you really want to get in the swing of things like the rich and famous did on Concorde then how about a bottle of Dom Perignon? A British Airways menu from the nineties lists Dom Perignon champagne, a 1997 Grand Cru Chablis and 1996 Margaux Grand Cru Bordeaux.

If champagne is not your tipple then you absolutely must try a cocktail. The Peninsula’s director of mixology Florian Thireau who was last at the Cheval Blanc in Paris has curated a fabulous menu. The menu is organised into three sections: mach 1, mach 2 and mach 3. For those that would like a cocktail these can be found under mach 0. The Mach number being the ratio of the speed of an aircraft to the speed of sound or at Brooklands bar, how strong your cocktail is.

Race course

Brooklands may pay homage to the world’s first purpose built race course but it is far from a time trial. Fine dining is exactly that and not fast food. When you book a table at Brooklands you are encouraged to savour not just the flavour, freshness and fusion of the food but the company, the venue and the service. An unhurried, refined and indulgent experience. Perfect to share with a beautiful date. Each course unfolds with meticulous attention to detail, allowing you to get to know one another over gastronomic delights. That and a sterling selection of wines.

You and your companion can opt for an la carte lunch or dinner. If you are feeling ambitious or experimental then there are the tasting menu’s. There is all vegetarian menu’s, sometimes missed in the fine dining world. Select from three, five or seven courses created by Claude Bosi. Claude has won two Michelin stars multiple times. First with Hibiscus, Shropshire then Bibendum, Chelsea. A passionate and talented French chef that is not afraid to use the C word expletive if you criticise his crab. Back in 2012 Claude took a food blogger to task. A 3 out of 5 review claimed the crab was overcooked. Crab is a key ingredient in most of Claude’s cooking. Try it for yourself as currently the menu has Great Fen Farm Celeriac Nosotto, Crab and Coconut.
