Milan is, without doubt, one of the smartest cities in Italy. It helps that it is home to the impressive Duomo, the stunning Galleria Vittorio, Santa Maria delle Grazie, La Scala and a plethora of ornate monuments and statues honouring heroes and artists. You won’t find many fountains or water features here because of severe drought warnings over the past few years but aside from that, it is a very charming city aesthetically. It is also a very pedestrian-friendly city, but be careful: many pavements are uneven. There are plenty of pedestrian-only zones and it is a great city to explore on foot.

Named after the first King of the Kingdom of Italy, the Galleria opened in 1877. Today, you will find the most prestigious designer shops from Gucci, Moschino, Bvlgari, to Prada and beyond.

Not joy a shopping mall; the glass ceiling, ornate painting and tiled floors are simply spectacular. Below your feet, you may notice four crests with the coat of arms for Milan, Rome, Florence and Turin. Notice that the Turin tiles are damaged in this otherwise pristine and well-maintained building. The bull, which represents Turin, is said to bring luck or fertility to those who spin around on its reproductive area three times.

Galleria also houses several bars and restaurants. One of which has a feature on the World’s Best Bars list: Camparino. Enjoy a Negroni and take the weight off whilst you plan your next purchase. The quadrilatero della moda, which translates to the fashion quadrilateral, is right beside the Galleria and has every store you could ever dream of.

If you are not a fan of shopping, it is still worth walking around this stunning part of the city. At each and every turn are mesmerising landmarks.
